You can now register online with the Shanghai police

All foreigners are required to register within 24 hours upon arriving at a new residence in China. If you are staying in a hotel, they will take care of it for you, but if you are moving into your own apartment or staying with a friend or family member, it is important to follow the right procedure. In the past this procedure required you to walk to the nearest (or rather the right) police station, bring your passport incl a photocopy of its personal information page, as well as your visa or residence permit, your rental contract (original and photocopy), your landlord's ownership certificate, and a photocopy of your landlord's id. If you are on a visa, you would also need to go to the police station everytime after leaving from and subsequently returning to China, or if your visa/residence permit changed.
From now on, all police stations in Shanghai support self-declaration. Following flyer is handed out at some of them:

Eight Park Avenue Compound in Shanghai Jing'an District

Eight Park Avenue is one the most frequently requested communities in Downtown Shanghai. Located on Xikang Road, it is very convenient for expats who work near the West Nanjing Road commercial area - many top offices are located here, such as Plaza 66 and CITIC Square. Further, plenty of Western bars and restaurants are nearby, and as a consequence, many expats live not only in the compound, but also in this neighborhood. Most apartments come with modern elegant design concepts. Layouts range from 1 to 4 bedrooms. Residents have free access to all onsite facilities including an olympic (50m) indoor swimming pool, tennis court, gym, squash court, table-tennis court, snooker, badminton & basketball court, bowling, chess & poker room, café, reading room, and children's playroom. Rent Index Shanghai 2018/19

As 2018 is now behind us, we have taken the chance to get a quick look at last year’s state of Shanghai’s residential leasing market. Based on all available and expat-relevant market information (last year we have made status updates to 11,645 rental properties), you can find out which are the most affordable and most expensive areas in Shanghai for expats, and learn about the average prices for various property types and layouts in different residential areas. For better context of the data used for this market report please note: As we are specialized in finding short- and long-term housing for expats (in the sense of professionals sent on Shanghai assignments by their employers), we mostly handle high-end properties that can meet the (often very high) standards said expats are used to in their home countries. Such properties are fitted with imported, modern electronics and home appliances, from home entertainment, over kitchen equipment, to under-floor heating, etc...
